Infrared

When my rebuilt Infrared Camera arrived in the mail, I was like a kid at a candy store. That first evening my partner and I dashed off to Balboa Park to capture sunset photos from the cactus garden. The results bowled me over. The Cactuses and the trees took on an “otherworldly” glow; almost a metaphysical quality. The subdued hues and glowing leaves and branches look like something from a martian landscape. To this day, those pictures are among my favorites.
Flowers
A drop of dew perched atop a velvety flower petal, glistening in the sun. The feeling the image evokes is one of rebirth and happiness. When I captured this yellow day lilly, on the hills above La Jolla Shores I really wanted to capture the complementary color palette; the way the yellow popped out against the iridescent blue sky. This selection earned me third place in Photoworkshop.com macro category.
Chaos Theory

To find beauty in something as ugly as a block of concrete, this is my challenge and one I have always been fascinated by. A dandelion popping through a cracked sidewalk, a barren landscape, piles of trash at the landfill being picked over by birds. My goal is to find the beauty in these images, and bring it to life, through my photos. There is beauty all around us that is often not apparent in the blandness or chaos of the setting.
Landscapes

Whether the subject is the Grand Canyon, or an expansive meadow, I try to find the perspective that adds the most interest to the scene. Often an overlooked foreground element, a wildflower in bloom or a mossy log can frame the photo in a way that creates texture, balance and symmetry. Patience cannot be overemphasized. Getting to know a location; how it looks under different lighting, at different times of day and going back to this spot over and over can eventually pay rewards. Since I have literally thousands of photos in this genre, I have chosen to showcase the Canadian Rockies first, since it is one of my favorite places on earth. Over time I will continue to add Landscape galleries. Stay tuned for updates.
